WATER & COAST

Morrison Springs County Park

Walton County · Panhandle & Emerald Coast

A 161-acre county park at 874 Morrison Springs Road, Ponce de Leon, built around a first-magnitude spring.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The spring pool is 250 feet across and puts out an estimated 48 million gallons of clear water a day, with peaks recorded at 70 million. Water surfaces through three separate cavities. The deepest of them goes down about 300 feet and ends in an underground chamber whose size nobody has measured. That is why divers come here from across the Southeast, and why this is one of the better known cave diving sites in the Panhandle. For everyone else, large boardwalks run out over the spring and give you the whole pool from above, clear enough on a still day to see the bottom drop away. There is a diving dock and a separate boat ramp. Night diving is not allowed under county ordinance, and the park closes at dusk. Entry is four dollars a vehicle, paid by card only, and the gate is open from sunrise to sunset every day. The county parks number is 850-419-0588
