How 1stFlorida works
How Businesses Get Listed on 1stFlorida
1stFlorida has two kinds of listing, and they work differently. This page says plainly what we check, what we do not check, and how to check for yourself.
Effective August 30, 2026Listings we gather
Most places on this site — parks, beaches, campgrounds, places to stay, things to do — are compiled from public sources and published business information. We check that a place appears to be real and currently operating, and we remove listings we find are closed. We do not inspect them, rate them or endorse them.
Advertising partners
One business per category per county can hold a paid advertising position. Those listings are marked as paid.
Before a business takes a position we confirm it is a real, still-operating business at the address given, and we speak to the owner or an authorized person by phone. That is the extent of it.
What we do
- We verify the professional or occupational license the service requires.
- We speak to the owner by phone before publication.
- We confirm the business is real and open for business.
What we do not do
- We do not check insurance.
- We do not run background checks.
- We do not inspect premises or qualifications.
- We are not a referral service.
- We do not recommend one business over another.
Being listed or advertising on 1stFlorida is not a recommendation, a vetting, or a statement that a business is qualified for what you need.
What a listing does not mean
A listing is not a guarantee of performance, quality, results, availability, pricing, insurance coverage or suitability. It does not mean that 1stFlorida supervises the business or that the advertiser is the only or best provider in the county.
Check for yourself — it is free and it takes a minute
Florida publishes license status online. Before you hire anybody, look them up:
- Doctors, nurses, dentists and other health professionals — Florida Department of Health license search
- Contractors, real estate agents, and most trades — Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation
- Lawyers — The Florida Bar
- Insurance agents — Florida Department of Financial Services
Tell us if something is wrong
If a listing is out of date, closed, or should not be here, use the contact form and we will fix or remove it.
