Which Florida counties have the lowest home prices?

The ten lowest, by typical sale price in Redfin's latest figures, the three months to June 2026 for most counties, are Madison, Hamilton, Holmes, Jackson, Calhoun, Washington, Glades, Okeechobee, Taylor and Dixie.

Eight of the ten are in the rural north and the Panhandle; Glades and Okeechobee are inland in south-central Florida. All ten are small, none with 50,000 residents, and a hospital, a large employer or a big grocery store can be a long drive. In the smallest counties few homes sell in a quarter, so the figure moves more from one report to the next. If you want a lower price with a city close by, Marion around Ocala and Citrus on the Nature Coast both come in under $300,000 with far larger populations, and Polk, between Tampa and Orlando, is just above that.

How does Florida's homestead exemption work?

If you own your home and it is your permanent residence on January 1, you can file for the homestead exemption with the county property appraiser by March 1, and it lowers that year's tax bill.

How much are property taxes in Florida?

There is no single Florida rate. Your bill is the home's assessed value, minus any exemptions, times the millage rates set each year by the county, the city if you live in one, the school board and any special districts, so two houses of the same price in neighboring towns can pay different amounts.
