Pioneer Florida Museum & Village
Pasco County · Gulf Coast
Twenty-one acres north of Dade City holding a schoolhouse, a church, a train depot and an 1860s farmhouse moved here and restored.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
It began in 1960 when Rudolph Rhode and his sister gave 37 antique farm implements to the Pasco County Fair Association. The State of Florida chartered the museum on April 28, 1961, and it now covers 21 acres just north of Dade City. The buildings were moved onto the site rather than reproduced. The Overstreet House is a two-story farmhouse from the 1860s. The one-room schoolhouse came from Lacoochee and the Methodist church from the settlement at Enterprise. The Trilby train depot stands with a locomotive beside it. There is a general store, the Blanton citrus packing house, and blacksmith and woodworking shops added in 2018, with a 1910 log house acquired more recently. Inside the buildings are tools, household goods, antiques and farm equipment, and the museum's stated purpose is Florida life and history from pioneer days up to 1945. It is a working record of how this county lived before the coast filled up, and the county fair still uses the grounds
