Starkey Ranch District Park

Pasco County · Gulf Coast

A county sports park in Odessa built with the Starkey Ranch development, sharing its site with a school, a library and a theater.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The park opened on October 31, 2017, at 2500 Heart Pine Drive, off the main entrance to the Starkey Ranch development in Odessa. It came out of an arrangement between Pasco County, Pasco County Schools and the developer Wheelock Street Capital, described at the time as the first public and private partnership of its kind in the county. The county put about 7.3 million dollars into the first phase, with the full build estimated near 14 million across several stages. What opened first was three multi-purpose fields, practice fields, a softball field, a playground, a pavilion, a paved trail, a concession building and restrooms. The longer plan called for fourteen ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, a gymnasium, a library, a media center, a black-box theater and an elementary and middle school on the same ground. The library, theater and cultural center that resulted is used by the public as well as the school, which is the point of building them together rather than separately
