More than 1,500 feet of pier, open every hour of every day, facing Pier Park across the road.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
The Russell-Fields City Pier runs more than 1,500 feet into the Gulf, which the city calls one of the longest piers on that coast, and it is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Anglers take cobia, king mackerel, Spanish mackerel and redfish among others as the seasons turn. The bait shop on the pier is closed at present. Walking out is not free: spectators pay a daily rate, reduced for the disabled, for military and for anyone over 65, and children under six go on without charge. The beach beside it carries six regulation volleyball courts, three beach wheelchairs are kept for use, lifeguards work through the summer months, and the west side is dog friendly. The address is 16201 Front Beach Road. Besides the fish already named, anglers take pompano, flounder, grouper and sheepshead off it as the year turns. Lifeguards work the beach from the first of April to the thirtieth of September, ten in the morning until six at night. The three beach wheelchairs are lent free against an identification card
