An upside-down building holding more than a hundred hands-on exhibits across six zones.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
The conceit is that this is Professor Wonder's laboratory, carried hundreds of miles by a tornado and dropped upside down, and the building is put up to look exactly that way from the road. Visitors go in through an inversion tunnel and are turned the right way up. Inside there are more than a hundred hands-on exhibits arranged in six zones: Extreme Weather, Physical Challenge, Light and Sound, Space Discovery, the Imagination Lab and the Wonder Art Gallery. A glow-in-the-dark ropes course and laser tag are on the site as well. The building holds 29,000 square feet. That ropes course is three stories high and the laser tag arena is a black-lit maze. A 360-degree ride called Space Fury runs alongside the exhibits. Nothing in the place is behind glass; the point of it is that children push, pull, lift and climb on everything. It stands on Front Beach Road among the other indoor attractions, which is where families end up on a wet afternoon in a town whose whole business is the beach
