QUESTIONS THAT NAME THIS PLACE

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The dunes here are the tall ones, high enough that the park is named for them, and they are left alone rather than walked over. Two coastal dune lakes, Campbell Lake and Morris Lake, sit behind the beach holding fresh water that mixes with salt when the sand bar breaks. The ground between them runs from pine flatwoods to coastal scrub to bogs where carnivorous plants grow and ponds covered in lilies. More than ten miles of walking trails cross the preserve, including the Campbell Lake and Morris Lake trails. A tram runs on the hour between the main parking area and the beach, with two runs a day out to the Campbell Lake stop, which matters if you are carrying chairs and children. The Gregory E. Moore RV Resort has hundreds of sites, plus bungalows for rent and a group camping area, and it books up far ahead. Open eight in the morning until sunset, four to six dollars a vehicle. Leashed pets are welcome except on the beach
