161 acres of live oaks and formal gardens around an 1897 house, at 181 Eden Gardens Road.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The Wesley House is a two-story place ringed by white columns and verandas, built by a family who made their money in the lumber that was cut out of this county and floated down to the bayou. Inside is a collection of furnishings heavy on late eighteenth-century French pieces. Tours run on the hour from ten in the morning until three, Thursday through Monday, and the house is the reason most people come. The grounds are the reason they stay. Heritage roses, camellias and azaleas are planted through the gardens, with a butterfly garden and a reflection pond holding water lilies and large koi. The camellias carry the winter and the azaleas take over in early spring, which makes February and March the busiest weeks here. Southern live oaks, very old and very wide, shade most of the property. The park fronts on Tucker Bayou and paddlers can reach it from the water. Open daily at eight in the morning, closing at sunset. An entry fee is charged
