WATER & COAST

Adams Tract River Camp

Lafayette County · North Florida & First Coast

A river camp on the Suwannee at mile 85.5, reachable only from the water or on foot.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

No vehicles come in here. It is one of five camps on the Suwannee River Wilderness Trail, set a day's paddle apart so that a person can work down the river staying under a roof each night, and it sits a few miles upriver from Troy Spring State Park. Five screened sleeping platforms take up to eight people each, and every one has a ceiling fan, an electrical outlet, hooks for at least three hammocks and a small seat and table. Outside each platform there is water, a fire ring and a picnic table. Beyond the platforms there are primitive campsites, hot showers, restrooms, grills, picnic tables and a pavilion. There is no fee. Platforms can be reserved, and anything unreserved goes first come, first served. From here it is 9.3 miles of paddling down to Branford. Outfitters will bring gear in for people who cannot carry it, since no car can reach the place
