Panama City Center for the Arts

Bay County · Panhandle & Emerald Coast

Panama City's first city hall, now three galleries and a set of classrooms in the middle of the downtown, free to walk into.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The building at 19 East 4th Street was the city's original city hall, and it was converted into an arts center as part of the effort to bring downtown Panama City back. The City of Panama City owns it and the Bay Arts Alliance, a local nonprofit, runs it with some city support. Three galleries carry the exhibitions, covering fine art, sculpture, jewelry and ceramics, and more than thirty of them are mounted in a year, so what is hanging changes often enough to be worth checking before a visit. The center also puts on music and film, teaches art classes and workshops for every age, keeps a gift shop selling work by regional makers, and rents the main gallery for private events. Admission costs nothing. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from ten in the morning to five in the afternoon, with Friday running on to seven, and closed Sunday and Monday. The building is wheelchair accessible. It is a short walk from the Panama City marina and the rest of the historic downtown
