Lake Worth Beach is a city-run oceanfront park built around the Casino Building, which opened on March 1, 2013, after a rebuild that stayed true to the original 1920s architecture. The name is historical and misleads a good many first-time visitors: there is no gambling in the building. What it holds is a 3,000-square-foot oceanfront ballroom on the second floor, with wrap-around terraces over the Atlantic, rented out for weddings and events. The William O. Lockhart Municipal Pier runs into the ocean alongside it, and the complex has restrooms, picnic facilities, an Ocean Rescue lifeguard service and a concession renting beach chairs, loungers and cabanas. The name goes back further than the building. A two-story bathhouse stood north of where Kreusler Park is now from 1913, with dances upstairs and dressing rooms and a dining room below, and it burned; the Brelsford family then gave the city oceanfront land in 1919, and the Lake Worth Casino and Baths opened on it in 1922 with slot machines, which ran until the city outlawed gambling in the middle 1930s. The Atwater Kent family enlarged the site through the 1940s to nineteen acres with close to thirteen hundred feet of beach, and a hurricane in 1947 forced a rebuild. The complex now holds shops, restaurants and a municipal pool
