What are the biggest counties and cities in Florida?

By the Census Bureau's latest five-year figures, six Florida counties have more than a million residents: Miami-Dade, the largest by far with more than 2.7 million, then Broward, Palm Beach, Hillsborough, Orange and Duval.

Pinellas, Lee, Polk and Brevard complete the ten largest. Most of those people live in three metro areas. South Florida runs almost without a break from Miami through Fort Lauderdale to West Palm Beach, across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. Tampa Bay takes in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco. Orlando spreads from Orange into Seminole, Osceola and Lake. Jacksonville is different: the city and Duval County have been one government since 1968, which is why Jacksonville counts as the largest city in Florida by population even though its metro area is smaller than the other three.
