ABOUT THIS PLACE
It opened on June 4, 1914, as City Island Ball Park, a field with wooden bleachers, on an island in the Halifax River at 105 East Orange Avenue. On March 17, 1946, Robinson took the field here for the Montreal Royals in spring training. Jacksonville and Sanford had locked their stadiums rather than let him play, and Daytona Beach became the first city in Florida to let the game go ahead. The park was later renamed for him, and a statue of Robinson stands at the south entrance. It went on the National Register of Historic Places on October 22, 1998. Capacity is 4,200. The field runs 317 feet to left, 400 to center and 325 to right. The Daytona Tortugas have played here since 2015, and the franchise has taken six Florida State League titles. The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats have used it as their home field since 1993 and took thirteen conference titles between 1999 and 2012. It is a small old park, and the history in it is the reason to go
