Blackwater Heritage State Trail Visitor Center

Santa Rosa County · Panhandle & Emerald Coast

The trailhead building at the Milton end of the Blackwater Heritage State Trail, with parking, water and the ranger station.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The visitor center sits at the southern trailhead in Milton, where the 8.1-mile paved trail begins, and it is the practical starting point for anyone riding or walking the corridor north toward Whiting Field. The building holds the ranger station for the trail, along with restrooms, drinking water and information on the route, the wildlife along it and the railroad that used to run on the ground underneath. Parking is here, which matters because the trail crosses roads at several points but this is where a car can be left safely for the day. Staff and volunteers can say what condition the surface is in and what has been seen lately, and the trail's guided walks and rides start from this point. The Blackwater Heritage State Trail is part of the Florida Greenways and Trails System, and this end of it is a short walk from downtown Milton, its shops and the railroad museum
