FLORIDA PLACE TO EXPLORE

Adventures Unlimited Outdoor Center

Santa Rosa County · Panhandle & Emerald Coast

An outfitter and resort at Tomahawk Landing near Milton, running paddling trips on Coldwater Creek and the Blackwater River since the 1970s.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The operation started small in the 1970s and was bought at auction on the Santa Rosa County courthouse steps in 1978, then grew into a full resort. It sits at 8974 Tomahawk Landing Road near Milton, inside Blackwater River State Forest, which puts it on some of the clearest sand-bottom water in the state. Paddling is the core of it: canoe, kayak and paddleboard trips on Coldwater Creek and the Blackwater River, tubing runs for people who would rather float, and multi-day river trips with overnight camping along the way. On land there is a zip line through the forest canopy and a challenge course. Accommodation covers rustic cabins, a restored schoolhouse inn and camping. It runs all year, though the office closes on Wednesdays from November through February. River levels are posted and matter, because a low creek and a high one are different trips. Weekends in summer are busy and the water is cold enough to be a relief
