Florida Exotic Bird Sanctuary
Pasco County · Gulf Coast
A parrot sanctuary at Hudson caring for more than 800 birds, open to visitors by appointment on guided tours.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
The sanctuary is at 8933 Casper Avenue in Hudson and looks after more than 800 birds, most of them parrots given up by owners who could not keep them. Large parrots live for decades, and a macaw can outlive the person who bought it, which is how most of these birds arrive. The sanctuary houses them for the rest of their lives rather than selling them on. Visits are by appointment only; there is no drop-in. A standard guided tour runs about an hour and covers the different species and how the place works. A longer package adds supervised time inside the macaw aviary with hand-feeding, and that one is restricted to visitors aged sixteen and over. Parrot owners can also arrange a visit of their own. It is a working rescue rather than an attraction, so the buildings are practical and the noise is considerable, but for anyone thinking of taking on a parrot it is an education worth having first
