Destin Harbor Boardwalk
Okaloosa County · Panhandle & Emerald Coast
A public walkway along Destin Harbor where the charter fleet ties up and the day's catch is weighed.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
The Destin Harbor Boardwalk runs along Destin Harbor past more than 100 boat slips, restaurants and shops, beginning at HarborWalk Village by the bridge. It was finished in 2012 by the property owners along the harbor, who paved and lit it as one continuous walk. Late afternoon is when the charter boats come in and hang the day's catch on the racks for weighing. It begins at HarborWalk Village by the Marler Bridge and runs east along the water. The harbor behind it holds the Destin charter fishing fleet, and the boardwalk exists because the property owners along the harbor agreed to pave and light one continuous walk rather than leave a row of separate docks. What that produced is a public waterfront in a place where the land is all privately held. Dolphin cruises, snorkeling trips, shelling excursions and deep-sea charters all leave from the docks along it, and restaurants and bars run its length. The boats come in through the late afternoon, and whoever is standing at the racks watches the weighing and the photographs. It costs nothing to walk and there is no gate at either end
