Plantation Historical Museum

Broward County · South Florida & the Keys

A city museum behind the library in Botanical Gardens Park, holding Seminole and Tequesta artifacts and a fire museum annex.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The Plantation Historical Museum building was unveiled in 1985, behind the Helen B. Hoffman Plantation Library in Botanical Gardens Park. A Fire Museum Annex opened shortly afterwards and the museum was expanded again in 2008. What it holds is local and specific: artifacts from the Seminole and Tequesta tribes, memorabilia from the city's fire and police departments, and material from families who shaped the place, the Peters among them. There are seasonal exhibits as well, including a Winter Wonderland of decorated trees each December, and rotating shows borrowed from state and other museums. The City of Plantation runs the museum, and it stands in Botanical Gardens Park, so a visit takes in the gardens as well. The Fire Museum Annex holds equipment and photographs from the department's own history, which in a city built from scratch in the last century is a large share of the city's history. The Seminole and Tequesta artifacts in the collection come from long before any of that. The Winter Wonderland in December is the event the town turns out for
