Broward County · South Florida & the Keys

The city's art museum at One East Las Olas Boulevard, founded in 1958.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The building it uses now opened in 1986 and was designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes. It runs to 83,000 square feet, of which more than 25,000 are exhibition space, and the collection holds more than 25,000 works. Two parts of it are the largest of their kind anywhere. The museum has more work by the American realist William Glackens than any other institution, and it holds the largest collection of the CoBrA group, the postwar movement named for Copenhagen, Brussels and Amsterdam, of any museum in the United States. There is a substantial Latin American collection alongside those, plus contemporary art and photography. Two research centers support the holdings: the Dr. Stanley and Pearl Goodman Latin American Art Study Center and the William J. Glackens Study Center. The museum became part of Nova Southeastern University in 2008. It opens Tuesday through Saturday from eleven in the morning until five, Sunday from noon until five, and closes Mondays. On the first Thursday of each month it stays open from eleven until seven and admission is free
