FLORIDA PLACE TO EXPLORE

The Dinosaur Store

Brevard County · Atlantic Coast

Three floors in Cocoa Beach: a fossil shop and activity zone below, dinosaur skeletons two stories high above, and Tutankhamun's tomb recreated on the third floor.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The Dinosaur Store opened in November 1996 as a small fossil and mineral shop two blocks from the beach in Cocoa Beach, and within a few years the same people were building traveling exhibits for other museums, among them the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, the Science Spectrum in Texas and MOSI in Tampa. A new building went up in 2006 with a non-profit museum designed into it, the shop and Adventure Zone opened on the ground floor in 2009, and the Museum of Dinosaurs and Ancient Cultures followed across the second and third floors in 2017. Each floor is a different proposition: gem panning, live alligators and snakes and a room of arcade and STEM machines set to free play downstairs, dinosaur skeletons standing two stories high on the second floor, and a third floor given over to a life-size recreation of Tutankhamun's tomb, a full-scale Terracotta Warriors diorama and Mesoamerican relics. Tickets are sold on site only
