ABOUT THIS PLACE
Historic Cocoa Village is a walkable district of independent shops and restaurants managed by Historic Cocoa Village Main Street, which also runs a historic walking tour of the area. A Saturday art market sets up each week at Myrt Tharpe Square. The village calendar returns to the same fixtures every year, among them art and craft fairs, a book festival, the Cocoa Village Concours and a Halloween golf cart parade. The self-guided historic walking tour takes in eleven landmark buildings and covers less than a mile. It starts at the Porcher House at 434 Delannoy Avenue, where paper maps are handed out on weekdays between nine and five, and each building on the route carries a code in the window to scan. The Brevard Heritage Council runs guided tours in season. The village covers about a hundred and sixty years of local history: it began as a fishing town, grew on citrus, and changed again with the space program. The Historic Lawndale Museum, the H. S. Williams house, stands two miles south at 1219 Rockledge Drive and opens on Saturdays from ten until three
