FLORIDA PLACE TO EXPLORE

Ocean Pond Campground

Baker County · North Florida & First Coast

Sixty-seven sites on a two-mile-wide lake in the Osceola National Forest, with a shallow sandy beach kept for campers.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

Ocean Pond Campground sits in the Osceola National Forest on the shore of Ocean Pond, a lake two miles across with a shallow sandy beach. There are 67 sites in all: nineteen with electric and water hookups, twenty-eight with water only, and twenty that are primitive. The beach is kept for campers rather than day visitors. There is a public boat launch with its own parking for motor boats and trailers, so the lake is reachable whether or not you are staying. Flush toilets and hot showers are on site, with a charge for showers for anyone not camping. The Forest Service records more than a hundred thousand visitors a year here. Its own page states no opening season and no closure dates, so none is claimed. The Great Florida Birding Trail and the Florida National Scenic Trail both pass through the campground, so through-hikers come off the trail here. Olustee Battlefield is four miles away, where the largest Civil War battle fought in Florida took place in 1864. A separate day-use area called Olustee Beach serves people who are not camping
