Port Charlotte Beach Park
Charlotte County · Gulf Coast
A county beach park from 1972 with a heated pool, a fishing pier, boat ramps and a rentable recreation center over the sand.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
Port Charlotte Beach Park was built in 1972 and renovated in 2012. It gives the county sand and sheltered water rather than open Gulf, which makes it the calmer option for anyone with small children. There is a heated swimming pool, a boardwalk running out to a fishing pier, boat ramps, tennis and basketball courts, two large pavilions and a scattering of smaller shelters with picnic tables. The recreation center on the site carries more than 6,000 square feet of indoor space available to rent, with a large kitchen and an outdoor deck looking over the beach, which is why a good many local events end up here. Charlotte County runs the park. The water is Charlotte Harbor rather than the open Gulf, so there is no surf and no undertow to speak of, which is the reason parents bring small children here rather than to the barrier island beaches. The heated pool means swimming carries on through the cooler months, when the harbor itself is too cold for most people. The boardwalk runs out over the water to the fishing pier, so you can fish without owning a boat
