ABOUT THIS PLACE

Lori Wilson Park is a 32-acre county beach park in the middle of Cocoa Beach, built around a maritime hammock rather than open sand alone. Six crossovers lead over the dunes to the beach, four of them ADA accessible, and a 3,155-foot nature boardwalk runs inland through the hammock itself. Lifeguards work the beach seasonally, surf fishing is permitted, and restrooms, outdoor showers and free parking are duplicated on both the north and south sides of the hammock, so neither end of the park means a long walk. The north side holds the playground and the picnic pavilions, and the south side an off-leash dog park divided for large and small dogs. The park runs to 32.43 acres at 1500 North Atlantic Avenue and the number is 321-455-1380. Three pavilions can be booked through the county: the Nature Pavilion at 286 square feet and the Kelly Slater East and West pavilions at 864 square feet each, named for the Cocoa Beach surfer who took eleven world titles. There are grills, picnic tables and volleyball, and two lifeguard towers work here in season
