Under the federal rule, the line runs from the Georgia border down the middle of the Apalachicola River to the Jackson River, west along the Intracoastal Waterway to Gulf County's west line, and south along that line to the Gulf. So Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach, Destin and Panama City are on Central time, and Tallahassee, Apalachicola and Port St. Joe are on Eastern.
Florida changes its clocks with most of the country: daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday in March and ends at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November. A 2018 Florida law, the Sunshine Protection Act, puts the whole state on daylight saving time all year, but only if Congress changes federal law to allow it. A federal bill to allow it passed the U.S. House on July 14, 2026, and was sent to a Senate committee on July 15, 2026.

Florida's nickname is the Sunshine State: the Department of State says Florida is known by it, and Florida law allows the words "Sunshine State" at the bottom of every license plate.
Move over: on a road with two or more lanes going your way, when you come up on a stopped emergency vehicle, sanitation truck, utility service vehicle or wrecker, or a disabled vehicle showing hazard lights, flares or signs or with people standing by it, you must leave the lane next to it.
Apply at your county tax collector's office or a license plate agent with the state's application, certified by a medical, osteopathic or chiropractic physician, a podiatric physician, an optometrist, a physician assistant, or an advanced practice registered nurse working under a physician's protocol.
