What do I have to do after I move to Florida?

The state starts the clock on the day you establish residency, and two deadlines come first.

Within 10 days, title and register your vehicles in Florida, which first needs insurance from an agent licensed in Florida and an in-person check of each vehicle's identification number. Within 30 days, get a Florida driver license. If you buy a home and make it your permanent residence, file for the homestead exemption with the county property appraiser by March 1; it applies to a home you owned and lived in on January 1 of that year. Registering to vote here is one of the things the state counts as showing you are a resident. Many new residents also file a sworn Declaration of Domicile with the clerk of the circuit court in the county where they live, a record that Florida is now their permanent home. Florida has no personal income tax, but the state you are leaving may have its own rules on when you stop owing it tax, so check with that state too.

Where to go from here.
