Snow is rare, but on January 21, 2025 a storm left 8.9 inches at Pensacola, far past the city's two-day record of 3.0 inches from February 1895, and about 10 inches in parts of Santa Rosa County. The farther south you go, the less winter there is. The lowest temperature ever recorded at Key West is 41 degrees, reached in January 1886 and again in January 1981, and a normal January day there runs from about 64 degrees at night to 74 in the afternoon. If a mild winter is the reason for the move, the southern end of the peninsula and the Keys are where it is reliable. If you want some change of season, the Panhandle and North Florida are the parts of the state that have one.

Yes, more than anywhere else in the country. In the National Weather Service's count from 1959 to 2004, Florida had 2,117 people killed or injured by lightning, more than twice North Carolina, which was second with 818.
The weather decides most of it. From about the middle of October into May is the dry season, with far less rain, and in the Keys a normal January afternoon is about 74 degrees.
