It is also home to three U.S. combatant commands: Central Command, Special Operations Command and Southern Command.

That count is from U.S. Senator Ashley Moody's December 17, 2025 news release. Central Command and Special Operations Command are headquartered at MacDill Air Force Base in Hillsborough County. Southern Command is in Miami-Dade County.

In the Panhandle: Naval Air Station Pensacola, Corry Station and Saufley Field in Escambia County; Naval Air Station Whiting Field in Santa Rosa County; Eglin Air Force Base and Hurlburt Field in Okaloosa County; and Tyndall Air Force Base and Naval Support Activity Panama City in Bay County.

In Northeast Florida: Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Naval Station Mayport, Marine Corps Support Facility Blount Island and the Air National Guard's 125th Fighter Wing at Jacksonville International Airport, all in Duval County. Camp Blanding Joint Training Center, the Florida National Guard's main training site, is in Clay and Bradford counties.

In Central Florida: Patrick Space Force Base and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Brevard County, Naval Support Activity Orlando in Orange County, MacDill Air Force Base in Hillsborough County, and Avon Park Air Force Range in Polk and Highlands counties. In South Florida: Homestead Air Reserve Base in Miami-Dade County and Naval Air Station Key West in Monroe County.

The Coast Guard Southeast District, the Seventh District until July 2025, is headquartered in Miami-Dade County, and Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater is in Pinellas County. The same release says the National Defense Authorization Act authorizes more than $851 million for Florida's installations, including $219.3 million for Eglin Air Force Base.
