Orange Hill Gator Farm
Washington County · Panhandle & Emerald Coast
A small hands-on animal farm at 3172 Orange Hill Road, Chipley, open for tours from April through October.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
Alligators are the headline, including hatchlings that visitors are allowed to hold, but the place keeps a good deal more than that: lizards, turtles, pygmy goats, coyotes and ordinary farm animals, with a petting area for the younger children. Tours run about two hours and they are hands-on the whole way, so people hold and feed the animals rather than watch a keeper do it. Everything is by private group booking with a reservation made ahead, priced by the group rather than by the head, so it suits a family or a few families together rather than a single visitor turning up at the gate. The telephone number is 850-527-1383. It is roughly an hour and ten minutes from Panama City Beach, which makes it a rainy-day or a day-off-the-beach trip for people staying on the coast. The teaching is the point, and the handlers spend the time explaining the animals rather than running a show
