Thirteen acres a mile south of Perry on US 19 and US 98, telling the story of the timber country around it.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

Taylor County has been forest country for well over a century, and this park exists to explain what that meant and still means. The museum covers the history of the forest industry in Florida and the wildlife that lives in a working pine forest. Behind it stands the Cracker Homestead, a structure from 1864 with the house, barn, well, arbor and garden laid out the way a north Florida farm family would have kept them. It is not a reconstruction of a mansion. It is a plain working place, and that is the point of it. Three covered picnic pavilions and a playground sit on the grounds, so families use the park as a park and not only as a museum. The Florida Forest Festival is held in Perry each October and has run for more than fifty years. The park is open Thursday through Monday, from nine in the morning to noon and from one in the afternoon to five, and it closes on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection runs it
