Econfina River State Park
Taylor County · North Florida & First Coast
3,377 acres at the mouth of the Econfina River, where the pine woods give way to the Gulf.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
The park address is 4384 Econfina River Road with a Lamont mailing address, and the land itself sits in Taylor County. The ground shifts as you move toward the water: pine flatwoods first, then oak and palm forest, then a wide open salt marsh with islands of pine standing out of the grass. That last stretch is what people remember, because there is nothing built on it in any direction. Hiking trails and horse trails both run through the park, which is unusual for a coastal state park in this part of Florida. Fishing and paddling are the other reasons people come, and the river gives access to the flats where the redfish and trout are. Birding is steady through the year and heavy during migration. The gate opens at eight in the morning and closes at sundown every day of the year, holidays included, and there is a small entrance charge. Lamont and Perry are both a drive away, so bring what you need; there is no store at the park and no cell service you can count on
