WATER & COAST
Little River Springs
Suwannee County · North Florida & First Coast
A Suwannee County park at 24891 105th Lane, O'Brien, on a spring run that flows into the Suwannee.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
The run is about 150 feet long, and the water holds at seventy-two degrees whatever the season, which means it feels cold in August and warm in January. Swimmers use the basin, snorkelers work the edges, and paddlers put in and follow the run out to the river. Below the basin an underwater cave system runs more than 1,200 feet, and it draws trained cave divers from outside the country as well as from Florida. Only divers holding full cave certification should go past the open water; the cave is not a place for the curious. Above the surface the park is straightforward: a paved parking lot, overlook decks above the spring, picnic pavilions, and portable restrooms. Entry is five dollars a vehicle. Hours run from nine in the morning to seven at night from April through October, and nine to five from November through March, open year round. No pets and no alcohol are allowed. Suwannee County Parks and Recreation runs the park and can be reached at 386-362-3004. Branford is a few minutes south
