PARKS & OUTDOORS

Clover Park

St. Lucie County · Atlantic Coast

The New York Mets' spring training ballpark in Port St. Lucie, open since 1988 and rebuilt for the 2020 season.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The ballpark opened on March 5, 1988, as Thomas J. White Stadium, named for the St. Louis developer who did the work of bringing the Mets to Port St. Lucie in the first place. It cost about eleven million dollars to build, which would be something near thirty million now. The name has changed more often than the tenant: Tradition Field from 2004, Digital Domain Park from 2010, Tradition Field again from 2012, First Data Field from 2017 and Clover Park from 2020. The Mets hold spring training here every February and March. For the rest of the year it is the home of the St. Lucie Mets in the Florida State League and the rookie-level Florida Complex League team, which means affordable baseball on summer evenings long after the big-league crowd has gone north. A renovation completed for the 2020 season added clubhouses, concessions and outfield viewing areas. It seats 7,160 at 31 Piazza Drive
