Florida Air Museum

Polk County · Central Florida

Florida's official aviation museum, at Lakeland Linder airport on the grounds where the Sun 'n Fun fly-in takes place each spring.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The museum was founded in 1986 and holds the state's designation as Florida's official aviation museum and education center. It sits on the Sun 'n Fun campus at Lakeland Linder International Airport, and the fly-in that takes over that airport every spring supports the museum financially and fills the ramp with aircraft for a week. The collection runs past forty aircraft covering warbirds, classics, antiques and experimental designs. Among them are a Douglas DC-3 that began life as a C-47 Skytrain in 1943, a Grumman F-14 Tomcat on loan from the National Naval Aviation Museum, and a Convair F2Y Sea Dart, the only seaplane ever to pass the speed of sound. The main building holds smaller aircraft, engines, a library and a shop, with a hangar annex for the larger machines. The Buehler Restoration and Skills Center, 8,000 square feet, opened in 2006 and is where students and volunteers rebuild aircraft
