MUSEUM & CULTURE
Florida Children's Museum
Polk County · Central Florida
A 47,800-square-foot hands-on children's museum inside Bonnet Springs Park in Lakeland, on two floors.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
The museum occupies a purpose-built building at 600 Bonnet Springs Boulevard, inside the park that opened on the old rail yard in 2022, and it replaced the smaller Explorations V museum that served Lakeland for years before. It runs to 47,800 square feet across two floors, which makes it a substantial building rather than a room of toys. The galleries are named for what happens in them. Watermelon Seeds is built for infants and the youngest visitors, with soft surfaces and nothing to climb that matters. Design Park covers building and engineering. City Play is role play, a small town to run. SPLAT Studio is for art and mess. Traveling exhibitions rotate through alongside them. Sensory-friendly spaces with sound dampening are built in, and the whole building is wheelchair accessible. It opens Monday through Saturday from ten to five and Sunday from ten to three, and the park outside gives a family somewhere to go when the indoor part is spent
