Polk County · Central Florida
A 260-acre working game ranch north of Lakeland where animals move in herds across open pasture and visitors go in by truck or on their own wheels.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
Safari Wilderness sits six miles north of Interstate 4 between Tampa and Orlando, on 260 acres of ranch country. The operators are plain about what it is not: no cages, no midway, no lines, no fixed path through a zoo. Animals live in natural herds across open ground, and the visitor goes to them. Three ways in are offered. A drive-through lets a family take their own vehicle around the route. A guided safari uses an open-sided truck with tiered seating, which gets people higher and closer. An all-terrain vehicle tour is self-driven and restricted to riders sixteen and over. Feeding is part of most tours, and add-on encounters cover lemurs and a guinea pig colony. Water buffalo, camels, antelope, zebra and a long list of hoofed animals are here. Everything is booked online ahead of time and arrival is fifteen minutes early. It is quiet in a way no theme park is
