GARDENS & LANDSCAPES
Florida Botanical Gardens
Pinellas County · Gulf Coast
A 182-acre county garden at Largo inside Pinewood Cultural Park, with more than fifteen separate planted areas and no admission charge.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
The gardens opened in December 2000 and are run by the Pinellas County Parks and Conservation Resources Department, with a nonprofit foundation supporting them. The site covers 182 acres, though the cultivated gardens are a smaller part of that and the rest is natural and restored land with boardwalks through it. More than fifteen distinct gardens are laid out along the paths: a wedding garden, butterfly garden, cactus and succulent garden, cottage garden, herb garden, jazz garden, native plant garden, palm garden, rose garden, topiary garden, tropical courtyard, tropical fruit garden, a vinery and the Majeed Discovery Garden built for children. Pinewood Cultural Park around it also holds Heritage Village, the county history museum, and an art gallery, so one stop covers several things. The Holiday Lights display runs from the day after Thanksgiving to New Year's Day with about a million lights, and it is the garden's main fundraiser
