A museum in St. Petersburg's Warehouse Arts District holding over 2,500 pieces of contemporary studio glass.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
Trish Duggan opened the museum in 2018 at 1901 Central Avenue, in the Warehouse Arts District west of downtown St. Petersburg. She built the collection with Corey Hampson of Habatat Galleries in Michigan, starting with about 500 pieces chosen to trace what is called the American glass family tree, the line of teachers and students running out of the studio glass movement that began in the 1960s. That movement took glassblowing out of the factory and put it in the hands of individual artists working in their own studios, and this collection is a record of what followed. It now holds more than 2,500 works by artists from the United States, Canada, the Czech Republic, Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, Japan and Australia. The stated purpose is to raise the standing of contemporary glass through exhibition, education and research. St. Petersburg has an unusual concentration of glass for a city this size, with the Chihuly Collection and the Morean glass studio a short drive east
