Anna Maria City Pier

Manatee County · Gulf Coast

The city pier at the northern end of Anna Maria Island, a landmark here for more than a century and currently being rebuilt.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

Hurricanes Helene and Milton destroyed much of the structure in 2024. Reconstruction is under way and, as reported in August 2026, the pier is expected to reopen in the fall of that year, so anyone planning a visit should check whether it has opened before setting out. The replacement is being built to a considerably stronger standard than the pier it replaces: solid piles are being driven around forty feet down to reach firm ground, which the city's public works manager has described as far better than the way it was built before. The businesses at the far end, a restaurant and a bait and tackle shop among them, took several feet of water in the storms and have been closed with it. The pier matters to this island out of proportion to its size, as the place people walk out to at sunset and fish from in the evening, and the wait for it has been felt by the town
