ABOUT THIS PLACE

It opened in 1964 as the House of Presidents. John and Jan Zweifel bought it in the 1990s and renamed it. John had been building miniatures of historic buildings since he was a boy; after marrying Jan in 1959 the couple made a living from Christmas displays and exhibits before moving to central Florida in the 1970s. The centerpiece of what they built is a model of the White House sixty feet long and detailed to a degree that has to be seen rather than described, and it has been shown in all fifty states. Letters from former presidents and first ladies praising it hang alongside. The original wax figure collection ran to thirty-six presidents, Lyndon Johnson among them. There is presidential china, campaign material going back decades, and a replica of Mount Rushmore outside the door. John and Jan both died in 2020 and the family still runs it
