WATER & COAST

Lakeridge Winery & Vineyards

Lake County · Central Florida

A 127-acre estate on US Highway 27 north of Clermont, with more than eighty acres under vine.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

It opened in February 1989. What grows here is a mixture of native and imported: the muscadine varieties Noble, Carlos and Welder, which are the grapes that actually thrive in this climate, alongside Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Production runs to over a hundred thousand cases a year, which is more than a million bottles, and the winery has taken more than fifteen hundred medals for its wines. Tours run seven days a week and cost nothing: a ten-minute film, a walk through the vineyard and a tasting, about forty-five minutes in all, with the last tour at four in the afternoon. Opening is ten until five Monday to Saturday and eleven until five on Sunday. The events calendar carries Corks and Forks, WineFest, Wine and Chocolate, a holiday market and a drone light show. More than 160,000 people come through in a year, which for a winery in central Florida is a serious number
