WATER & COAST
Adventure Island
Hillsborough County · Gulf Coast
A 30-acre water park across the street from Busch Gardens, open since 1980 and run by the same company.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
Adventure Island opened on June 7, 1980, and covers about 30 acres northeast of Tampa, directly across the road from Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. United Parks & Resorts owns both, and tickets are often sold together. The park holds around ten water slides along with pools, a lazy river and children's areas. Rapids Racer sends riders down side by side through what the park calls the first dueling saucer section built anywhere. Colossal Curl, Wahoo Remix and Caribbean Corkscrew each take a different approach to getting people down a hill in a hurry. Endless Surf is the large wave pool. Splash Attack is a play structure with a bucket that empties over everyone below at intervals. Fabian's Fun Port and Rambling Bayou are built for small children and for anyone who would rather float than plummet. Chairs, cabanas and a good deal of grass are laid out for people spending the whole day. The park runs on a seasonal schedule, roughly spring through early fall, and closes in the coldest months, so check the calendar before making the drive. Lines are shortest early in the day
