Children's Museum of the Highlands

Highlands County · Central Florida

A hands-on museum in downtown Sebring built for children from one to twelve, open all day on one ticket.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The Children's Museum of the Highlands is at 219 North Ridgewood Drive in downtown Sebring. It is built for children between one and twelve, and the idea behind it is plainly stated: that children learn through play, and that a place which lets them be creative and use their imagination gives them a liking for learning that lasts. In practice that means hands-on exhibits rather than things behind glass, which suits a wet afternoon or a day too hot to be outside. The ticket is for all-day play, so a family can come in, go out for lunch and come back. There is parking in front and more along the Wall Street side of the building. The museum runs regular programs, takes school field trips, hosts birthday parties and puts on special events through the year, and sells memberships for families who come often. It is a nonprofit with a board of directors and a Friends of the Museum group behind it. It opens Wednesday through Saturday from 9 to 4 and Sunday from noon to 4, closed Monday and Tuesday, with different hours in school holidays
