Flagler Beach Historical Museum
Flagler County · Atlantic Coast
A small town museum a block west of the pier, covering everything from mastodons to German submarines to surf culture.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
The Flagler Beach Historical Museum stands at 207 South Central Avenue, one block west of the fishing pier. Its purpose is simply to keep and share the history of Flagler Beach, and the range it covers is wider than the size of the building suggests. There are prehistoric and Native American artifacts, material from the colonial plantations, and photographs and objects from the town's 1920s. There is the story of German submarines off this coast during the Second World War. There are mastodons, shipwrecked French sailors, Charles Lindbergh, and the families who founded the town. Newer exhibits deal with local surfing, with the hurricanes and high tides that keep reshaping the shoreline, and with the wildlife people run into here. Photographs, fossils and keepsakes donated by residents fill much of the space, and there are hands-on displays that suit children. The museum also houses the welcome center for the county tourism office, so it doubles as the place to ask what else is worth seeing. It is open daily from 10 in the morning until 4, parking downtown is easy and the building is accessible
