Spessard Holland Beach Park
Brevard County · Atlantic Coast
Two separate county parks rather than one, north and south, both with seasonal lifeguards and free parking.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
Spessard Holland is two county beach parks rather than one, and which you want depends on what you are doing. The north park is 4.53 acres, sits on the beach three miles south of U.S. Highway 192 and is known as a fishing spot, with three dune crossovers, one of them ADA accessible, mid-sized pavilions and a drinking fountain. The south park is larger at 6.5 acres and is built around a 100-foot dune boardwalk with two small pavilions, used for surfing as well as surf fishing. Both have seasonal lifeguards, restrooms, outdoor showers and free parking. The name is worth knowing. Spessard Lindsey Holland, born at Bartow in 1892 and died in 1971, was the first man born in Florida to serve as both governor of the state and United States senator: governor from January 1941 to January 1945 and senator from September 1946 until January 1971. He is remembered above all for introducing the Twenty-fourth Amendment, which banned poll taxes in federal elections; Congress passed it in August 1962 and it was ratified by January 1964
