Where do young professionals live in Florida?

Florida's youngest counties are its two big college towns. Leon County, around Tallahassee, home to Florida State and Florida A&M, and Alachua County, around Gainesville, home to the University of Florida, have a median age of about 32, the lowest in the state by the Census Bureau's latest five-year figures.

After them, the youngest large counties are the metros where most of the jobs are: Orange around Orlando, Duval around Jacksonville, Osceola around Kissimmee and St. Cloud, and Hillsborough around Tampa, all with a median age under 38. Okaloosa, home to Eglin Air Force Base and Hurlburt Field, is in the same range. One thing to weigh in Osceola: its average commute to work, about 35 minutes, is the longest of any large county in Florida. At the other end of the scale, Sumter's median age is over 68.
