Florida's state and county fuel taxes on gasoline total between 38.025 and 44.025 cents a gallon in 2026, depending on the county.
The Florida Department of Revenue publishes the rates. On January 1, 2026, the state tax on gasoline went up from 21.5 cents to 22 cents a gallon, and the State Comprehensive Enhanced Transportation System tax went up from 9.7 cents to 9.9 cents. Both had also gone up a year earlier, on January 1, 2025.
No county is lower than 38.025 cents a gallon. That total is the 22-cent state tax, the 9.9-cent transportation tax, 6 cents of local option tax and an inspection fee of one-eighth of a cent.
The rest depends on the county, because the ninth-cent tax and the local option tax vary from county to county. In 2026 the total is 38.025 cents in 11 counties: Brevard, Calhoun, Dixie, Franklin, Gadsden, Hamilton, Indian River, Lafayette, Orange, St. Johns and Taylor. It is 39.025 cents in Hillsborough and 42.025 cents in Miami-Dade. It is 44.025 cents in 35 counties, among them Broward, Palm Beach, Duval, Lee, Collier, Sarasota, Polk, Volusia and Seminole.
Terminal suppliers also collect a state pollutants tax of 2.071 cents a gallon on motor fuel, which is not part of the county totals above. Fuel terminal suppliers and wholesalers collect these taxes and pay them to the state.
Questions about fuel tax go to the Florida Department of Revenue, the state agency that collects it. Its Taxpayer Services line is (850) 488-6800, Monday through Friday except holidays.
