Union County Historical Museum

Union County · North Florida & First Coast

The county museum, in the Townsend-Green Building at 410 West Main Street.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The building went up around the turn of the last century and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 8, 1992. It is a two-part commercial block in an Italian Renaissance style, with arched windows and decorative brickwork, which is more ornament than a farm town of this size usually put on a storefront. The ground floor held the town drug store, the leading business in Lake Butler when farming here was at its height. The Union County Historical Society, formed in 1993, runs the museum inside it. The collection is local and plain: old farm tools, photographs, relics and written records of Union County and the families who settled it. It is the kind of museum where the person at the desk can often tell you who is in the picture. Regular hours are Monday mornings from nine until noon, and other times can be arranged by calling 386-496-3044. The building took fire damage, and a state grant made in 2024 is paying for the repairs. It stands on Main Street, close to the trailhead
