Heritage Village

Pinellas County · Gulf Coast

Twenty-one acres at Largo holding more than thirty historic Pinellas County buildings moved here and restored, including a log cabin from 1852.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

Heritage Village opened in 1977 on ten acres and has grown to twenty-one. It is the county's local history museum, and rather than a building of cases it is a village of buildings, over thirty of them brought in from around Pinellas County when they would otherwise have been demolished. They range from the 1850s to the 1930s: houses, a church, a school, a railway depot, a store, working outbuildings. The oldest is the McMullen-Coachman log cabin, put up no later than 1852 and the oldest surviving structure in the county. The Pinellas County Historical Commission and the Junior League of Clearwater drove the effort to create it, and Pinellas County owns and runs it. Costumed interpreters and working demonstrations operate on many days, and the buildings are open to walk through rather than viewed from a rope. It stands at 11909 125th Street North, inside the 182-acre Pinewood Cultural Park alongside the Florida Botanical Gardens, and opens Wednesday through Sunday
